aren't there none word, what specially use with children? it's really strange for me. it's not so personal, in my opinion.

Probably because English is a very simple language, short, easy words, not like Hungarian... So you don't need to simplify them, they're easy for children as well...

feeding bottle: cumisüveg

If I wanna say "lábacskád" I use "Your little leg" or "this little leg".

They don't have as many childish word as we have. Like "csüccs" or "ácsi fel" or "hami" (Or they were not used in our town...)

357. 6d51e459bf (válaszként erre: 356. - Holly)
2010. márc. 12. 07:38

the truth is that, i have to learn "children-language" in english, like "csücsülj le", etc.

if the little dog is "doggy" in english, then for example...i don't know... "lábacska" or "fülecske" is the same? like "leggy" can displaces that; "leg"?

does feeding bottle mean that; cumisüveg, does it?

Just bottle. I think one of the main rule about English:

KEEP IT SIMPLE!

355. egypt
2010. márc. 11. 22:28
And what about feeding bottle?
354. egypt (válaszként erre: 353. - Holly)
2010. márc. 11. 22:28

Oh, yes, I've heard that, too!

Yeah, I thought so...:)

I mean that nobody calls it comforter...

353. Holly (válaszként erre: 352. - Egypt)
2010. márc. 11. 22:25

dummy :D

The american version is even worse than the comforter: pacifier (by the way, nobody calls it comforter in the UK...) I just can't see how kids can learn words like that easily. I mean "cumi" is easy enough and dummy isn't too difficult either but pacifier and comforter??? :)

Can you tell us some typical words that you can't find in dictionaries?

E.g. what do you call "cumi"? "Comforter" sounds too official for me...

You can ask me. I have a 3-year-old :) (And my fiance doesn't speak Hungarian so we talk to babe or about babe in English most of the time)

pelenka: nappy

cumi: comforter

hőmérő: thermometer

another good way to improve your English is to take a hit you like and translate the lyrics. you can learn a lot by translating texts, learning the and even singing them if you like:)

Hi, I think one of the best way (not for beginners) to watch films with English audio and subtitle. This way you can listen the film and check the subtitle in case you didn't catch the audio. I love it this way. In fact, I do not watch anything in Hungarian any more because the "not-original" voice bothers me. I love reading too, but I only suggest to read books like. I have finished some vampire book in English because they were not out in Hungarian yet and after the book I alway realize I can read with the same speed and it's much better in the original language.

Sorry about the spelling mistakes if I have any, I don't have the energy to read my post again, I'm very tired. Good night, everybody :)

I didn't say that cartoons are useless, I only said that films are better.:) But of course you can learn from cartoons, too. You can practically learn from anything that's in English.:)

2010. márc. 9. 17:49

Ok:)

But if you let me i will keep the cartoons nice, otherwise i agree with you in everything.

Hopefully you will be among us a lot, and you can teach us lots of interesting and useful things.

Books are the very best, I think to learn. To impove your vocab and grammar, so your whole knowledge. Of course you can't practice pronunciation and speaking this way. But languages consist of a written and a spoken part, and both are important.

Books?Yes, sometimes. But what about the pronunciation? We cant pick it up from books. MAybe it is good for our vocabulary.
